The 3rd Annual UpTown Throwdown is a modified redpoint climbing competition, open to the public. Each climber will have their choice of a selection of routes to climb, each route with a different point value assigned. Some routes may have partial score checkpoints, giving you points for reaching a checkpoint. Your score will be the total of your 5 highest-scoring routes climbed. This is not a USAC sanction event.
Categories include:
Advanced - Any climber that has redpointed (sent) a route 5.11 or harder, even once. Lead skills are not required, but they will help your score, as many of the advanced routes will be lead-only.
Intermediate - Climbers regularly redpointing climbs in the 5.9-5.10 range. Most of these routes will be top rope, and some will be lead-able.
Beginner and Kids 12 and under - Any age climber not yet climbing 5.9, and kids under 12 years old will be in the same division! But kids 12 and under climbing above the 5.10a grade will be put into the intermediate category.
LEAD CLIMBING NOTE: To compete on lead routes, climbers must be already lead certified at UpTown, or take a lead skills check prior to the competition. Call the gym if you are unsure of your status. Arrive early if you need to get skills checked.
