At 2:30 pm, we’ll begin with Project Vortex’s founding artist, Aurora Robson, guest curator of A Rising Tide of Plastic in Art, who’ll speak about the current exhibit.
From 3-5, exhibiting artist, Barbara Lubliner will teach techniques for transforming single-use plastic containers and packaging into unique sculptural objects. Participants will explore the structural and creative potential of discarded plastic through an illustrated talk, demonstrations, and hands-on experimentation.
At 5pm, exhibiting artist, Natalya Khorover will give an Artist Talk. Natalya Khorover’s practice stems from a need to create beauty from that which has been discarded. Striving to lessen plastic pollution and overconsumption drives my creativity. Zero waste is the ultimate goal for her practice. Natalya collects single-use plastic food packaging at home, cleans up trash on their walks, and transforms it in the studio.
To prepare for the workshop, please collect, wash, and bring the plastic you’d typically discard during the week before the workshop (e.g., beverage bottles, food tubs, and packaging)
