♻️ Upcycled Tote Bag Workshop
📍 FASHION ZONE @ TMU, 44 Gerrard St E Room 312, Toronto, ON M5B 1W7
🗓 Thursday, May 28th | 🕑 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM
Join us for an intimate, hands-on workshop where you’ll learn how to transform your old materials into a brand new, functional tote bag. This session is all about upcycling — breathing new life into fabric that might otherwise sit unused or end up in landfills.
What You’ll Learn:
- How to deconstruct garments for reuse
- How to design and plan your tote bag based on available materials
- Techniques for piecing together fabric (patchwork or minimal seam styles)
- How to sew durable handles, and finish your tote with clean seams
- Tips and tricks for sewing thick fabrics like denim on domestic machines
This workshop is beginner-friendly, but you'll leave with skills that can be applied to a wide range of upcycling projects.
What to Bring:
👖 Optional: 3–4 garments that you’re ready to repurpose — jeans, jackets, tops all work great! We will also have donated fabrics available to use.
📝 A notebook and pencil for sketching, measurements, and taking notes
What We’ll Provide:
🧵 Sewing machines, fabric and all the tools you’ll need (scissors, thread, bobbins, pins, snips, etc.)
🧑🏫 Step-by-step guidance from our founder, Arushi — designer, educator, and passionate upcycler
By the end of the session, you’ll leave with a finished tote bag designed by you, a deeper understanding of circular fashion, and the confidence to continue creating with your own wardrobe at home.
