About this Event
UNORTHODOX WASHES — Session III: Wine Stains & Oxidation is where color gets a mind of its own. Wine doesn’t “sit” on paper like normal paint — it shifts as it dries, blooms at the edges, and oxidizes into unexpected tones: bruised reds, violet shadows, russet halos, and granular speckle that looks like it came from a weathered archive.
This session is a paint-n-sip style night with real technique underneath the fun. You’ll learn how to work with wine’s chemistry and behavior so the results feel intentional, not accidental. It’s perfect for anyone who loves process, texture, and atmospheric color.
What you’ll do
- Create a finished piece (or a strong hero study plus exploration sheets)
- Learn how to build layers without muddying your color
- Explore oxidation-driven shifts, tide-lines, and controlled bleeding
- Use simple modifiers (optional) to coax surprising textures and edge effects
- Leave with repeatable methods you can use in sketchbooks, illustration, and mixed media
What to expect
- A warm, social studio vibe with guided instruction and walk-around coaching
- A mix of structured steps and creative freedom so your work stays your own
- Unexpected beauty: drying changes are part of the magic, and we teach you how to steer them
What’s included
- All materials and supplies (paper, brushes, palettes, wine media, and specialty tools)
- Guided instruction + hands-on help throughout
- Wine, light hors d’oeuvres, and Romolo’s chocolates
- A finished piece (or close to it) plus technique notes you can keep using
Who it’s for
Beginners are welcome. Artists and color-lovers will especially enjoy this session if you’re into stains, atmosphere, and letting the medium do some of the work — without losing control of the composition.

A 2-hour guided session, plus an optional 30–45 minutes afterward if you want extra time to finish and refine your piece.
