Unmasking the Singer is a unique head-to-head singing competition fundraiser where Quincy and Hannibal area celebrities/community members don mascot costumes and sing for votes to win the coveted title of Unmasking the Singer Champion!
This year's event, being held on Friday, April 24, at Town & Country Inn & Suites in Quincy, will be a fun-filled night of raising money for The Salvation Army to continue providing shelter to the homeless in Quincy and Hannibal. This unique fundraiser will benefit those living in the counties The Salvation Army Quincy Area Command serves: Adams, Pike, and Brown in Illinois, and Marion, Ralls, Lewis, Shelby, and Monroe in Missouri.
"This event brings together fun, entertainment, and a mission that matters,” said The Salvation Army Development Director, Matt Schmidt. “If we can create a night full of joy while also helping keep our neighbors off the streets, that’s something truly meaningful. You may not see the faces of those you’re supporting, but your involvement makes a real impact. By keeping our performers’ identities hidden, we highlight the importance of unmasking the reality of homelessness in Quincy and Hannibal."
Tickets for the event are $75 per person or $550 for a table of eight. Doors will open at 6:00 pm, with dinner being served at 6:30. A cash bar will be available.
Emcees for the night will be WGEM's Chad Douglas and The Salvation Army's Matt Schmidt. The opening act will take the stage at 7 pm. Clues as to who is behind the mask will be given for each contestant. During each round of performances, audience members will be encouraged to vote by donations ($1 = 1 vote) for their favorite act. Each act will perform one song, then votes will be tallied. The top four acts that raise the most money in Round 1 will then move to Round 2. The remaining contestants will be unmasked to find out who they are. At the end of Round 2, votes will once again be tallied, and the act with the most votes will finally be revealed and crowned the People's Choice Unmasking the Singer 2026 winner.
While raising much-needed funds for The Salvation Army, the evening will also include recognizing The Salvation Army's Business Partner of the Year, information about Salvation Army services, and other entertainment.
Once the new Unmasking fan favorite winner is announced, the race to be the top fundraiser begins. Each participant, once unveiled, will be given an additional nine days to see who can raise the most money through online giving or donations given in their name at The Salvation Army Kroc Center. All online fundraising will stop at midnight on Sunday, May 3.
