The UNLV Wind Orchestra, under the direction of Thomas G. Leslie, launches its 2025–2026 season with a concert that promises to thrill and inspire. “Grit and Glory” brings together cinematic excitement, luminous lyricism, and landmark repertoire for an unforgettable opening night.Feel the power of John Williams in his stirring arrangement of The Star-Spangled Banner and the high-octane Of Grit and Glory, originally written for the 2023 College Football Playoff National Championship. Experience the early genius of George Gershwin in his tender Lullaby and the radiant brilliance of Lili Boulanger’s Hymn to the Sun, a brief yet breathtaking jewel of orchestral color.
The evening culminates with Gustav Holst’s First Suite in E-flat, a true cornerstone of the wind band repertoire. From the majestic Chaconne to the playful Intermezzo and triumphant March, Holst’s masterpiece showcases the full artistry and dynamic range of the UNLV Wind Orchestra at its best.
