About this Event
Donor-advised funds are one of the most powerful — and underutilized — tools in charitable giving today. And whether you're advising donors or serving them, the opportunity is the same: DAFs work best when everyone at the table understands them.
This session brings together CPAs and nonprofit development and finance professionals for a shared conversation led by financial advisor Yaphet Tadesse, CEPA, because generosity doesn't happen in a vacuum. It happens when the right guidance meets the right moment.
For CPAs
You're often the first person a client turns to when thinking about taxes, wealth, and legacy. But knowing a DAF could help isn't the same as knowing when and how to bring it up. This session will help you recognize the signals that tell you a client is ready for that conversation and give you the questions to ask.
For Nonprofit Development & Finance Professionals
If you're in a role that touches donor relationships — development staff, donor managers, board members serving as treasurer or on the fundraising committee — this session is for you. Your donors may already have DAFs and simply not know they can direct them to your organization. Walk away knowing how DAFs work, what questions to ask, and how to open that conversation with donors in a way that feels natural and compelling.
Together, you're two sides of the same giving ecosystem. When CPAs know the right time to open the door and nonprofits know how to walk donors through it, more generosity finds its way to where it's needed most.
What You'll Gain
- A foundational understanding of how donor-advised funds work and why they matter right now
- The right questions to ask, whether you're sitting across from a client or a donor
- Greater confidence in starting or receiving the DAF conversation
- For CPAs: how to recognize the signals that tell you a client is a strong DAF candidate
- For nonprofits: how to make DAFs part of your donor conversations in a way that's accessible and actionable
- Direct insight from a financial advisor working with these tools every day
