The University Philosophical Society welcomes back our alumni for an evening of discourse at the annual Honorary Members' debate.
About this Event

Welcome back, dear honorary members. You’ve been out there in the real world: making choices, making careers, making whatever that thing on your LinkedIn is. But now, as February approaches, it’s time to come home. Back to the GMB, back to chamber, back to that particular flavour of chaos you only get from long nights in council and free wine philled discourse.

You’ve grown, matured, maybe even developed “wisdom” (congratulations). But let’s be honest: we all know you still remember the thrill of a perfectly timed POI, the shame of a joke that absolutely did not land, and the dizzying feeling of remembering that you have to speak in chamber in 20 minutes and have written nothing. Those were the days. And lucky for you, they’re back even if you did trade in that battered leather jacket for a smug Schoeffel.

So this February at the hour of 7:30 on the 19th in the GMB, we invite you — our honorary members, our alumni, our proud repeat offenders — to help us confront the eternal question: if given the chance, would we make better choices… or would we gleefully dive headfirst into the same disasters, armed only with experience and a slightly nicer pair of shoes?

Come witness returning legends clash with the young, the hopeful, and the tragically un-jaded, as we decide whether mistakes are failures… or just traditions with a bit of extra personality.

And if nothing else, think of it this way: You made the mistake of joining the Phil once. Why not make it again?

Wine and philth provided. Obviously. Some habits are worth keeping.
