Over 500 persons assembled at St Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral at a special service of peace and friendship in November 2023 looking for hope and solace in the face of the heartbreaking events of the war in the middle east and Ukraine. The event helped to bring the community together during one of our darkest hours. Due to the success of that event and the continuing turmoil throughout the world the Edinburgh Interfaith Association (EIFA) is hosting a second Uniting for Peace and Friendship event at 7pm on Wednesday 13 November 2024 at St Giles’ Cathedral on the Royal Mile in Scotland’s capital city. The event will beginning promptly at 7pm.
The programme will include musical performances, and reflections from religious and civic leaders and the compère will be the well - loved television presenter Gail Porter. The inspiring programme will conclude with a united Pledge for Peace and a rousing performance by the Scottish Council of African Churches Gospel Choir.
When asked why she was travelling to Edinburgh to compère this special programme Gail Porter stated “I grew up in Portobello. Therefore, I wanted to be part of something so special in my home patch. Every one of us must do all we can to cultivate and preserve peace and friendship. I am honoured to be part of this endeavour especially in this the 35th anniversary year of the Edinburgh Interfaith Association.”
This is a special service which also marks the 35th anniversary of the founding of EIFA a charity striving to build peace and interfaith understanding across Edinburgh and beyond. The programme is offered without charge, however, a leaving collection shall be conducted to promote and advance the work of EIFA.
