We are delighted to announce the return of underground dubstep legend Joe Nice to Victoria on May 30th. While his sound, sets and production are monumental, his accomplishments go far beyond his history of headlining shows and music festivals here on the West coast. Joe has been extensively involved in activism including being selected as a guest speaker at the Medicare-For-All march in Washington DC. He is frequently seen wearing his yellow vest representing the Gilet Jaune movement in France and other nations supporting social, environmental, and economic justice for all. He is a strong and outspoken advocate in the fight against ableism, colonialism, fascism, homophobia, sexism, and racism. Humanity, freedom, equality, and survival remain at the forefront of his values. Yes, Joe is a legend for being the first American-based DJ to play on London pirate radio Rinse FM and for his relentless passion for pushing the UK bass sound worldwide. Please come show Joe our appreciation and celebrate Volume 6 of Victoria's own UK music monthly, United Sound.

A celebration of the distinct, undeniable, and wickedest underground sounds of the United Kingdom.

UKG, Speed Garage, Bassline, Jungle, Drum & Bass, Dubstep, Grime — and every hybrid and evolution that carries that unmistakable British flavour. This is a night built for bass lovers, two-steppers, ravers, and anyone who craves the irresistible energy of the UK scene.

More than a club night — United Sound is a growing community.
It’s a gathering place where diverse musical styles meet, where both newcomers and long-time ravers are welcome, and where connections are made through rhythm, culture, and the shared love of low-end frequencies.

Born in Southampton, United Kingdom, growing up in Baltimore, MD, USA but now living in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Joe Nice is universally recognized as the ambassador of the dubstep sound in North America and has been highly instrumental in the growth and success of dubstep and bass music for the past seventeen years. Essentially, he played dubstep before the genre had a name. He is North America's first and most respected dubstep DJ and is globally known as one of the most genuine and talented artists in the dubstep community. Staying true to the art and essence of djing, Joe performs at his events using only turntables, records, and dubplates.

Joe started playing dubstep in June 2001 with a collective of Baltimore DJ's, the 2 Charming Crew. Nice earned a residency at Sonar Baltimore and headlined local, regional and national shows shortly afterwards. In September 2003, Joe Nice co-created a monthly internet radio show on GourmetBeats.com. His show was the first to feature dubstep in North America. In June 2005, while gigging and doing internet radio, Nice co-founded and was a resident DJ at the first dubstep night in North America, DubwarNYC.

He is the first American-based DJ to play on London pirate radio, Rinse FM, the first American-based DJ to play the legendary DMZ bi-monthly bash, and the first American-based DJ to play FWD>> @ Plastic People. In 2007, he was proudly selected as one of URB magazine's NEXT 100. In July 2011, Nice became a resident DJ at a new dubstep night in New York City, Reconstrvct. In May 2012,

Joe transitioned his monthly radio show from Gourmetbeats.com to the award-winning SubFM, where his GourmetBeats radio show is heard on the second Tuesday of each month, 7pm - 9pm EST. On the 2015 edition of the dubstepforum.com awards, Joe received the most votes in the “Best DJ” and “Best Radio Show” categories. Also in 2015, Joe created his record label, GourmetBeats, which releases new music on vinyl and digital formats and features leading and upcoming worldwide dubstep production talent. In September 2017, GourmetBeats Radio celebrated 14 years of internet radio broadcasts. In March 2018, GourmetBeats released their 16th record with several more releases planned for 2018 and 2019.

Since 2001, Joe Nice has performed in over 150 cities, in 46 countries, across 6 continents. His worldwide fan base continues to grow with his enthusiastic live performance, stage presence, upfront selection, and skillful mixing. His bag of 10" dubplates is a who's who of dubstep. If you have not the tune before, chances are you will hear that tune from Joe Nice.

Mirage's musical journey mirrors the illusory nature of sound, bending and refracting across genres, creating an experience that captivates and transcends expectations in the realm of music production. Originally hailing from Québec, Mirage (formerly known as ‘Blackout’) began delving into the fusion of breaks and hip-hop on the analog grooves of vinyl in 2010. In his latest exploration, Mirage immerses himself in the depths of 140, UKG, Deep D&B & Jungle, consistently pushing the boundaries.

Beyond the studio, Mirage is a community-builder in Victoria, B.C.'s music scene. The architect behind Dubversified Culture, he founded this underground community in 2017 with a mission to elevate local West Coast bass artists and forge connections across global Bass music and the local dance music scenes. Host of a monthly show on Subtle Radio (UK), Mirage's dedication underscores his commitment to navigating the ever-evolving landscape of electronic music.

Get ready for DOMIN8TRACKS:

the underground's high energy authority on all things 140. Since stepping into the scene at age 15, she has evolved into a powerhouse selector known for "in your face" sets that blend deep dub with a sexy, obscure edge. Frequently described as a DJ “for the girls,” her sound brings a feminine grit to the heavy hitting spectrum, making the dance floor feel as empowering as it is loud.

With a resume that boasts being on support for Flux Pavilion (twice), Doctor P, Dion timmer and MYTHM, DOMIN8TRACKS brings a level of confidence and technical precision that only comes from years in the trenches.
