About this Event
Don't miss the UNION screening + discussion at U of M Detroit Center! Immerse yourself in the powerful story of modern labor organizing showcased in this thought-provoking documentary.
The documentary focuses on the journey of the workers-turned-organizers, described by Amazon Labor Union (ALU) President Christian Smalls as the "N.W.A. of the organizing world." Their highly unconventional journey includes 20-hour days, wearing Money Heist costumes at press conferences, and distributing free marijuana to workers, all in service of an extraordinary battle with a massive corporation.
UNION follows the group through political battles, pivotal strategic events, and interpersonal tensions that test their commitments and their solidarity. Up against a corporate superpower and with legal protections at a drastic low for workers, all odds are against the ALU – who yet remain unswayed in their beliefs in collective action and the dignity and power of the working-class.
Let's come together to experience and discuss this impactful film. See you there!
