About this Event
UNF Shakespeare - As You Like It
“What think you of falling in love?” So begins As You Like It, Shakespeare’s most buoyant and generous comedy, presented here in an intimate, minimalist adaptation directed, produced, and edited by professor Will Pewitt. This short, barestage production pares the play to its essence: a warm, witty story of renewal, self-discovery, and the quiet joy of finding connection in unexpected places.
Banished from court, Rosalind enters the Forest of Arden, a pastoral space where social pressures soften, conversation turns playful, and disguise becomes not deception but perspective — allowing characters to speak more honestly and listen more deeply. Emphasizing language, movement, and ensemble storytelling, the production invites audiences into a shared imaginative experience rooted in clarity, warmth, and human connection.
Bringing together student performers and collaborators from across the University of North Florida, and supported by the College of Arts & Sciences, the Hicks Honors College, UNF Student Life, and the UNF Foundation Board, this spring’s As You Like It is light on its feet, rich in heart, and a reminder that love — romantic or otherwise — often begins with curiosity, kindness, and the courage to be open. This spring, all the world’s a stage.
Note that the Amphitheater is outdoor in front of the Coxwell field, so please bring a blanket or folding chair if you’d like!
