This isn’t always the kind of grief that has a clear loss or a defined ending. It can show up quietly, in the space left behind when roles shift, routines change, or identities evolve. It’s the ache of an empty house after years of caregiving, the disorientation of retirement after a lifetime of structure, the emotional weight of caring for others while parts of your own life are put on hold. It’s also the letting go of things, spaces, and versions of yourself that once felt essential.
Shea Wingate, LCSW, is a grief therapist and founder of Wingate Counseling, where she works with individuals navigating loss and life transitions. Shea will help us put language to these experiences, creating space to honor what’s changing while finding steadiness in what comes next.
