Who are these courses for?
These free one-hour online courses are designed for both new and experienced users of Understanding Society: the UK Household Longitudinal Study.
What will you learn?
The lectures will cover:
- An overview of Understanding Society, highlighting its key features such as study design (who is interviewed, how are they interviewed and how often, what information is collected), and how to access the data,
- A review of the questions in Understanding Society related to a specific area and a demonstration of how to find specific questions and variables,
- Research examples utilizing Understanding Society data in each topic area.
The topics covered in March 2025 are:
- Income, wealth & housing – 12 March
- Employment – 19 March
- Family, households & children – 26 March
The topics covered in October 2025 are:
- Income, wealth & housing – date tbc
- Employment – date tbc
- Family, households & children – date tbc
- Ethnicity & immigration – date tbc
