Explore how communication works for you, why misunderstandings happen, and how to protect your social energy.
About this Event

This is the 2nd workshop in a series of 4 (you don’t have to attend all 4 though — you can pick and choose the sessions that feel most relevant to you).

Join our friendly, easy-to-follow and interactive 2.5 hour workshop designed especially for neurodivergent adults.
You will hear from and connect with others with lived experiences.

This workshop is for neurodivergent adults who are living in Wokingham, who:

  • find communication tiring, confusing, or overwhelming
  • feel misunderstood, misread, or “taken the wrong way”
  • want to better understand their own communication style
  • are pre-diagnosis, newly diagnosed, or late identified
  • are family members or carers who want to improve communication & understanding

This is a neuro-affirming space, focused on lived experience rather than blame, judgement, or pressure to communicate “normally”.

Together, we’ll explore how communication works in real life, including words, tone, pitch, body language, and unspoken expectations — and how neurodivergence can shape how we send, receive, and interpret information.

We’ll also look at how executive functioning and sensory processing affect communication, and how misunderstandings can build or escalate when overload, stress, or fatigue are involved.

There will be plenty of opportunity to talk, ask questions, share experiences (if you’re comfortable), and take part in activity-based learning (if you want to)or you can simply listen. You are welcome to participate in the way that feels right for you.

What we’ll cover:
  • Different ways we communicate (words, tone, pitch, body language)
  • How neurodivergence can affect communication styles and needs
  • Exploring your own communication preferences
  • Understanding and respecting others’ communication preferences
  • How executive functioning and sensory processing impact communication
  • Why misunderstandings happen — and how they can escalate
  • Practical tips for clearer communication
  • Social energy, recovery after interaction, and protecting your capacity

You’ll leave with greater awareness of your communication needs, tools to support communication, and reassurance that communication difficulties are not personal failings.

We don’t claim to have all the answers. This is a shared learning space, grounded in lived experience, where we explore, reflect, and learn together.

This workshop is led by trainers with lived and professional experience of neurodivergence, who are committed to creating safe, inclusive, and non-judgemental spaces.

Our sessions are practical, relatable, and grounded in real-world understanding — not clinical.
Whether communication feels like a constant challenge, or something you want to better understand, you are welcome here.

Book your place and come as you are. You don’t need to have it all figured out.

This workshop is FREE for neurodivergent adults living or working in Wokingham
(family members or carers who want to improve their understanding & support of a neurodivergent adult are also welcome to attend).

(Those living outside of Wokingham Borough are able to purchase an affordable ticket instead, but there are limited numbers.)
