About this Event

Understanding Non-profits Finance - Basic Bookkeeping

Does your charity struggle to understand bookkeeping? Have you got questions about what you need to keep track of everything? Do you want your trustees to have a better understanding of the process and signs to look out for in the accounts?

Join us at the Froud Community Centre on Thu Jun 20, 2024 at 10:30 AM for a crash course on non-profit finance and basic bookkeeping.

This interactive workshop will teach you the basics of bookkeeping. It will cover the following points:

  • What records should be kept?
  • Basic bookkeeping
  • Payments & receipts forecasting
  • Cash flow forecasting with worksheet activities
  • How to get your books to balance
  • Information on tax and allowable claims
  • Key terminology for accounts

You will work with a dummy charity to build a bookkeeping system that can be adapted to suit your organisation.

There will also be an accountant to answer any questions you may have.

For any organisation to be successful the finances must add up. This workshop gives you an understanding of the financial implications of running your organisation. It also teaches you bookkeeping to an acceptable standard.

By the end of this workshop, you will have a good understanding of how to run your charity compliantly and a basic understanding of bookkeeping and accounts requirements. You will be able to set up your books correctly and you will also be aware of the relevant information you need to provide to an accountant.

This workshop is aimed at those looking to start a charity or community organisation in their first year of trading.

Who is this course for?

Whether you're a newbie or just need a refresher, this event is perfect for anyone involved in managing or overseeing finances for a non-profit organisation. They can be volunteers, staff, trustees, finance lead or other manager/CEO.
