Exploring how neurodivergent and neurotypical minds work, connect, and thrive together.Parents and teens will take part in activities that help them feel more connected to each other, understand how they each experience the world, and learn how to handle emotions better.
What we will do?
Through this playful approach, families will:
- Build stronger relationships
- Learn to see things from each other’s point of view
- Pick up new ways to communicate and support each other
We’ll also learn a little about how our brains work and why certain ideas about what’s considered “normal” can be limiting or unhelpful. This helps everyone better understand themselves and each other, without judgment.
Who is this for?
- This workshop is designed for all neurotypes: so-called “neurotypical” and “neurodivergent” parents and teens (including siblings) are welcome.
- Teens should be 12+ (or get in touch if you have a younger kid you think would be a good fit)
- Parents can attend without their teens and vice versa
- Content touching on neurodivergence will focus on ADHD and autism.
- It is important that everyone who attends the workshop is interested in being there and able to be an active participant.
Who are your hosts?
This workshop will be co-facilitated by Gillian Nycum, Executive Director of Authentic Front; and her 16 year old son, Henry Rose: Sec5, DnD Dungeon Master, musician, and much more. This workshop will be participatory and in that sense co-developed by all participants with Gillian and Henry guiding.
Why are we doing this?
Families often want to feel more connected, but it can be hard to understand each other—especially when people think, feel, or process things differently.
This session gives you a chance to:
- Play together in a low-pressure way
- Understand each other’s needs, sensitivities, and strengths
- Learn more about the sources of emotions and behaviors, from a brain and body perspective
- Challenge limiting ideas about “normal” and celebrate neurodiversity
What will you get out of it?
By the end of the session, you will:
- Feel more connected and seen by one another
- Have new ways to support each other emotionally and and in the world
- Understand more about each other’s sensory and communication styles
- Leave with practical tools and language for navigating everyday life
This is not about “fixing” anyone — it’s about building understanding, trust, and confidence in each other.
We will leave with a better understanding of neurodivergent experiences and the social constructs that categorize us all and cap our collective potential.
