About this Event
Workshop delivered by Plymouth Mental Health Recovery and Empowerment Group and Agnieszka Zając using Collage Care The Method™ by Laurie Kanyer (MA)
Many people believe that striving for perfection will lead to success, validation and happiness.
But often the standards that perfectionists hold themselves to are unrealistic and impossible to achieve. When people with perfectionism aren't able to meet these impossible standards, it can lead them to experience low self worth, anxiety, depression, stress as well as having other negative impacts on their lives.
Perfectionists are often incredibly hard on themselves when they feel that they have failed, which chips away at their self worth and confidence, holding them back from trying new things or stepping outside of their comfort zone for fear of failure.
Does this sound like you? Is perfectionism holding you back from doing the things you love and trying new experiences? Is this having a negative impact on your mental health?
This fun and relaxed workshop will allow us to explore and discuss perfectionism in a safe, validating and uplifting environment, and teach you how to create art in a playful way that improves your mental health and wellbeing. It will also encourage you to trust your instincts and let go of perfectionism. Playful art often involves taking risks and experimenting, which can help you overcome fears and build resilience. We will teach you how engaging in creative activities can help you become more present and focused, reducing stress and anxiety.
What to expect from this workshop:
- We will explore perfectionism, where it might come from and why we get stuck in this cycle.
- We will explore letting go of our perfectionist tendencies through a guided art collage exercise that will teach you how to create art in a playful and intuitive way, providing you with a tool to support your mental health and wellbeing.
- We will explore other ways that we can challenge our perfectionism and improve the way we react to our experiences to improve our self worth and wellbeing.
- We will learn to celebrate our achievements, no matter how big or small.
- We will learn how to express our thoughts and feelings by letting our inner child play again without being judged or criticised.
- We will learn to support ourselves rather than punishing ourselves when things don't go the way we expected.
All artistic abilities are welcome, no experience is required, only your curiosity, an open mind and a willingness to experiment. You will leave the workshop feeling centered and empowered, with a meaningful visual reminder of your strength and resilience.
Materials and refreshments will be provided, however we ask you to bring your favourite crayons or colourful markers if you have any.
There will be a maximum of 10 people taking part in the workshop with 2 facilitators.
If you have any access requirements to enable you to attend this workshop, please let us know by contacting us at [email protected].
This collage exercise is led by mixed media collage artist Agnieszka Zając (AGAZART) and is based on the method written and developed by Laurie Kanyer MA (USA).
