In November, Pro Arte welcomes conductor Sarah Ioannides, Music Director of Symphony Tacoma and Director of Orchestral Activities at Boston University, for a concert of rarely heard works. Béla Bartók originally composed his striking Romanian Folk Dances as a suite for piano, later arranging it for chamber orchestra to great effect. As the first woman organist in Sweden, the composer and conductor Elfrida Andrée was a musical pioneer. Her carefree Intermezzo, extracted from an earlier symphony, is a breath of fresh air. Aaron Copland’s expressive Duo features Pro Arte’s principal flutist Ann Bobo. In Francis Poulenc’s colorful Sinfonietta, the French composer’s signature wit and charm are on full musical display.
