Uncoiling Veils of IllusionDirected by Kristina Chan
MAP mima
March 27th -29th @ 7pm
An immersive 360 degree multi-channel film, sound and dance performance created by Kristina. Chan. This work offers an intimate and atmospheric encounter with contemporary dance, harnessing MAP mima’s unique technology to expand the boundaries of performance and perception.
Uncoiling Veils of illusion is an intimate immersion into the heart of our wild psyche and truest relationship with nature. Through a kaleidoscope of images, sound and choreography audiences are immersed in a kinaesthetic experience.
Filmed on Awabakal Land, Lake Macquarie by Alex Brunton, choreography by Kristina Chan, and performed live by Jordan Bretherton and Jacinta Durney, with a 360 degree film by an intergenerational cast drawn from Catapult's vast dance
community, and an original sound design by composer James Hazel.
Chan’s choreography, known for its emotional clarity, sculptural precision, and deep physicality, unfolds within a constantly transforming visual world. The dancers move through landscapes of light, colour, and motion, creating a sense of being fully enveloped in the performance. Rather than watching from a distance, audiences are immersed in a spatial experience where choreography and projection merge into a single, flowing composition.
Performers: Jordan Bretherton and Jacinta Durney
