Unabashedly European: Chamber Music From Court, Church, and Coffeehouse

Music City Baroque invites you to share in the celebration of Early Music Month/Women’s History Month with a concert featuring music from the daily life of the early 18th Century.

Begin at Louis XIV’s newly renovated hunting lodge, the glittering palace of Versailles, with music “for the bedtime of the King” by Marin Marais. From the salons, we’ll hear the early trio sonatas of Elisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre, the first woman to receive a Royal “license” to publish her compositions. Heading south to Venice and Rome, we present the innovative concertos for church and private concerts composed by Archangelo Corelli and Antonio Vivaldi. Finally, we’ll travel to Bach’s favorite Coffee House, where his harpsichord concerto in G minor was first performed.

Music City Baroque will be joined by Malcolm Matthews, currently professor of organ and harpsichord at the University of North Texas. Patrons will recognize Dr. Matthews from previous appearances with MCB on concerts, Bacchanalia, and as former Organist of Christ Church Cathedral.
