University Taikai 2026Dates: 11th and 12th April 2026
Location: Hosted by University of Cambridge Kendo Club
The University Taikai is a Kendo competition open to university students who meet the eligibility criteria (including being 25 or under). There will be both individual and open team events:
Individual tournaments:
Kyusha (Beginner): For participants with less than two years of experience and no dan rank.
Dan (Open): For ranked participants.
Matches are organised by gender, as per BKA Guidelines.
Men’s team competition:
Consists of 5 members, with up to 2 substitutes allowed per team.
A maximum of 2 per teams per university is permitted.
A minimum team size of 3 members, though if 2 teams are submitted at least one must have 5 members.
All team members must be from the same university.
Women’s team competition:
Consists of 3 members, with up to 2 substitutes.
A minimum team size of 2 members.
It is expected to have 8 teams, so initially we will be capping it at one team per university, however if we have less than 8, we will invite universities to field a second.
All team members must be from the same university.
Match format:
Pool stages will determine progression to finals. Specific match duration, pool sizes, and advancement criteria will depend on court availability and numbers in attendance.
