Date: Saturday, June 20, 2026

Time: 9:00 AM-3:00 PM rain or shine

Camp Attendees: high school students entering 9th-12th grade.

Fee: $60

Location: Ruth Lilly Fitness Center – Triathlon Training Center and on campus

Parking in Lot 14 on the west side of Ruth Lilly Fitness Center.

Required Equipment & Items:

• Bike with multiple gears

• Helmet

• Water Bottle

• Lunch

• Pen or Pencil

Clinic Waiver


The UIndy Bike Skills Clinic is a one day camp with the goal of helping high school students learn the basic skills and develop some basic knowledge on what is needed to race a bicycle, especially within the context of draft legal triathlon. Some of the sessions will be in the classroom and other sessions will be outside on campus and in a parking lot.

Students who might be interested in this clinic are current high school triathletes, one or two sport high school student athletes that are curious about triathlon, high school student athletes that are interested in biking as a cross training for running and high school student athletes that are interested in racing a bike in a criterium.


The following skills and knowledge will be covered in the 6 hour clinic.

• Bike and helmet fit

• Understanding the gears and shifting on a bike

• Relationship between RPMs and gear selection

• Muscular engagement and pedal technique

• Drafting and pack riding

• Cornering and steering the bike

• Running with the bike

• Pace line and pack riding

• Pacing, intensity and effort


Coach Doug Bio

Coach Doug is currently the Head Coach for the Women's Triathlon team at the University of Indianapolis. He fell in love with riding a bike in high school and has been riding ever since. He did his first triathlon 40 years ago in 1986, first road bike race in 1989 and first race on the velodrome in 1992. He started his coaching career also in 1986 for his high school cross country team and started coaching bike racing in 1992.
