UBC Bands invites audiences on a richly coloured musical tour starting with conductor Meijun Chen and the UBC Concert Winds celebrating energy and expressive depth with highlights including John Philip Sousa’s The Thunderer and Copland’s Variations on a Shaker Melody to Reed’s The Hounds of Spring, Hanson’s rhythmic Albanian Dance, and Grainger’s Lincolnshire Posy. Conductor Cheng Xin Ip then leads the UBC Symphonic Wind Ensemble, expanding the canvas with Shostakovich’s exhilarating Festive Overture and Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition in the dazzling Ravel orchestration, transformed for winds.
