D.C.’s 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, & 5th Best Performance Artist* brings his award-winning, critically acclaimed, signature project back to Rhizome DC – for the first time in person!**

#txtshow is a crowdsourced, immersive, multiscreen performance featuring a mysterious character named txt (pronounced “text”) who recites a script written in real-time, anonymously, by YOU! It’s the best show you’ll write all year.

? PLEASE NOTE: #txtshow relies on a high level of audience interaction. Audience members must bring a cellphone and download the Zoom Workplace mobile app, with their camera and microphone off for the entire show. The content of the show is based entirely upon what audience members write in anonymity and, as such, may contain mature themes, profane language, sudden loud noises, and potentially triggering content or themes.

Created and Performed by Brian Feldman (and Written by the Audience), the show on Monday, August 5th will be the 250th performance of #txtshow!

It’s also the...

• First #txtshow performance in 884 days (2 years 5 months)

• First #txtshow (irl) performance in D.C. in 2,246 days (6 years 1 month 24 days)

• 74th #txtshow (irl) performance

*Best Performance Artist, Washington City Paper Best of D.C. 1st Place: 2018. 2nd Place: 2019. 3rd Place: 2012, 2013, 2015, 2023. 4th Place: 2021. 5th Place: 2022.

**#txtshow (on the internet) played Rhizome DC’s Zoom in 2020 and 2021, which were respectively the first and 175th shows of a 12-country, 36-city, 175-show virtual world tour during the pandemic.

#txtshow (irl) had its world premiere at the Jack Kerouac House in Orlando, Florida on February 26, 2009.

About

Rhizome DC is a nonprofit community arts space located at 6950 Maple St NW, in the Takoma neighborhood of Washington, D.C. We are dedicated to promoting creativity as a force for personal empowerment and community engagement. We also strive to provide a home for non-mainstream programming in the DC area. We host programs that promote creativity in all its forms. These include concerts, workshops, performances, talks, exhibitions, and demonstration projects in areas such as art, music, technology, theater, local food, poetry, as well as in more esoteric fields of knowledge. We believe it’s more interesting to make your own culture than to consume culture made by others. We are exploring new approaches to grassroots community education which seek to blur the lines between amateur and professional, teacher and student, and which free learning from rigid models of instruction and explication. We also strongly support non-commercial artistic experiences and seek to provide a space for artists to create experimental works and share the results with the broader community.
