Staying true to our belief that experiences are best enjoyed when art, culture, and community come together, we are back with our 3rd edition of Supper Theatre, a unique concept of live theatre and a dining experience. After two successful editions, we are excited to present ‘Two to Tango’, 2 short back-to-back comedy plays directed by none other than theatre legend, Michael Muthu.
What is the Supper Theatre experience?
Our Supper Theatre experience is designed as a complete evening experience. Guests arrive to watch a live theatre performance in an immersive, comfortable setting and then enjoy a grand dinner after the show.
Over the past editions, Supper Theatre has become a platform for theatre lovers, new enthusiasts, artists, and the larger creative community to come together. As a heritage space that supports the arts, we are continuing our effort to open our doors to more culture and meaningful creative experiences in Chennai.
About Supper Theatre #3: Two to Tango
This edition will feature an evening of two short comedy plays performed back-to-back with a short intermission. Both plays are two-character productions and explore the complexities, humour, and emotional layers of relationships between men and women.
The evening features light-hearted storytelling and situations that are relatable, funny, and thought-provoking, delivered with wit.
Both plays are directed by Michael Muthu, whose long-standing contribution to theatre continues to shape the experiences in Chennai.
Play #1: A Need for Brussel Sprouts
This play follows two lonely, middle-aged New Yorkers who live in the same apartment building. One is a struggling actor desperately trying to land a television commercial, while the other is a tough police officer who lives upstairs. What begins as an argument quickly turns into a surprising emotional connection. The play uses humour to explore loneliness, vulnerability, and the unexpected ways people find companionship.
Play #2: A Need for Less Expertise
The second play focuses on Edie and Gus Frazier, a middle-aged couple whose marriage is under strain after many years together. In an attempt to fix their relationship, they turn to a self-help audio tape that promises personal and spiritual transformation. The comedy unfolds as they try to follow the tape’s advice, revealing the challenges of long-term relationships and the often amusing search for easy solutions to deeply personal problems.
These two plays complement each other, and promise plenty of laughs while reflecting on modern relationships.
