Two Part Workshop: Handbuilt Pottery Ruru SculptureThis workshop is an ideal opportunity to build a sizeable piece of art for the home or garden!
The ruru (owl) will be a hand built piece using terracotta/dark clay, coiling to give strength and structure. The style is very much rustic and folk art inspired and students have found creating the ruru a mindful, relaxing process.
Students will be given a template to begin their structure and templates to keep within the shape of the ruru. Should students wish to make their ruru larger then extra clay can be purchased at their own cost via the tutor. After the initial workshop, each piece will be bisque fired, then during the second shorter workshop (2 weeks later) students can apply an oxide wash and colour their ruru as they wish. Finished creations will then be taken and fired again and you will be notified when they are ready to be collected.
This was a very successful workshop held previously at another venue. Students created some really inspired pieces and some went on to take their pottery journey further.
Workshop runs part 1 - Saturday 8th November 10am-3:30pm (creating the piece) then part 2 - Saturday 29th November 1-3pm (colouring the piece) at the Referee’s Room, end of Rangipare Street, Ōtorohanga.
Workshop costs $130 per person (plus a booking fee of $4.20) which includes clay, firing, oxide wash and glazes.
