Those who know James Intveld have heard the stories of the archetypal rebel - the masterful multi-instrumentalist whose brother’s life was lost while on tour with the great Rick Nelson, the grandfather of west coast country rock. They know of his fierce spirit toward traditional country and rockabilly music. They know of his contributions to The Blasters, Dwight Yoakam, Dale Watson, Rosie Flores and others while carving his own path as one of the brightest and most ambitious musicians of the day at the Palomino Club of North Hollywood. They heard that he dubbed vocals for Johnny Depp in the movie Cry Baby and dueted with Reese Witherspoon for the movie Walk The Line. His place in the Hollywood scene was that of a player who would pop up for a session with Bob Dylan and show up on TV with Levon Helm and Kinky Friedman. His story is as deep and complex as the San Andreas fault line. A powerful performer with a crack shot band, he puts on one helluva show - honed in honky tonks and roadhouses, dance halls and theaters. It’s a show steeped in California roots music history while carving a hear-and-now path that makes Intveld a must-see when he comes to your town.
John Surge & the Haymakers play music that fits like a pair of well worn jeans and feels the right side of retro country but also has an eye to the future and perfects Surge's own personal vision of the music that came from the likes of the Palomino Club in its heyday in L.A. Surge is a veteran of the Los Angeles country scene, and he and his band are fluent in the gleaming, dance-floor-friendly brand of California twang-pop made famous by Buck Owens and Dwight Yoakam – melodic country music that is like a full dish of ear candy.
The Deer Lodge has amazing food. There are no reservations so make plans to arrive early before the show. Doors are at 7 and the show starts promptly at 8pm. If you have questions, message us here.
