Aviation Trailblazers: Tuskegee Airmen to Be Honored at New Mexico Museum of Space HistoryThe New Mexico Museum of Space History is proud to host a special program honoring the legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen on Thursday, March 26, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the New Horizons Dome Theater and Planetarium. Presented in collaboration with the Holloman AFB Tuskegee Airmen Chapter, this event invites the public to learn about the courage, skill, and perseverance of America’s first Black military aviators.
The Tuskegee Airmen were aviation pioneers who broke racial barriers as the first African American fighter pilots and support personnel in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II. Their outstanding record—flying demanding combat missions and protecting Allied bombers in Europe—earned them the nickname “Red Tail Angels” and helped lay the groundwork for the desegregation of the U.S. military.
From 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., visitors can view displays that highlight the history of the Tuskegee Airmen and their impact on aviation and civil rights, culminating in a short presentation by members of the Holloman AFB Tuskegee Airmen Chapter. The program offers a powerful opportunity for students, families, veterans, and community members to connect with this remarkable story of service and sacrifice.
