World Turtle Day is celebrated each year on May 23 and offers a wonderful opportunity to learn about and support the conservation of turtles and their habitats. Wisconsin is home to 11 species of turtles, but many of these incredible animals are facing declines due to habitat loss, road mortality, and other human impacts.Join Waukesha County Land Conservancy at the Hausmann Nature Center to explore the fascinating world of Wisconsin’s turtles. During this program, Land Management Director Helen Holtz will introduce each species, highlighting their unique traits, behaviors, and the important roles they play in our ecosystems.
You’ll also learn about the challenges turtles face and simple ways we can all help protect these ancient and remarkable creatures.
Celebrate World Turtle Day with us and discover how we can work together to ensure Wisconsin’s turtles continue to thrive for generations to come.
Registration is $7, with proceeds supporting the work of Friends of Lapham Peak and Waukesha County Land Conservancy - two nonprofits dedicated to protecting local ecosystems and expanding environmental education in our community.
