Turtle Island Legend

Come, learn the original history of North America from the ignition of a perspective, Canada, United States, Mexico these are all very new labels come, and share in the culture, rich with stories, colors and culture, relearn some history, and find the quietness and inner peace as we paint the legend of turtle Island.

TIMES: 12:30 PM - 2:00 PM PST and 2:30 PM - 4:00 PM PST

LENGTH: 1.5 hours

LOCATION: Please arrive 30 minutes prior to your workshop time to allow time to check-in. The check-in tent is located on the east side of Strathcona Park.

AGES: Youth/Adults (ages 12 and up), Suitable for beginners and up!

PRICE: $35 per person per workshop

ACCESSIBILITY: The event site is on grass, gravel, and uneven terrain, there is no ramp access to the park. The open-air work setting will have ambient noise, conversational sound levels, and loud areas with the noise of food truck generators. There's a wheelchair-accessible portable washroom on site. We will communicate verbally with members of the public using listening and spoken language in English.

About the Artist

James Groening or Blue Sky is a Cree Saulteaux Artist located in Burnaby. He paints in the Woodland style and uses art as a cultural reconnec, as he was a 60 scoop kid that grew up void of language, culture and identity.

~~~ In addition to participation in this workshop, your ticket includes access to our General Admission Create! Art Zone located in Strathcona Park on July 27th from 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM. The Art Zone will feature multiple drop-in public participation art activities, access to the Festival Art Shop, as well as the beer garden, food trucks AND live music presented in partnership with Light Organ Records & 604 Records. To get into the Art Zone, you will have to show your workshop ticket.~~~~

The Eastside Arts Society is thrilled to announce that the 9th Annual Art! Bike! Beer! Crawl fundraiser & tour will be held in person on Saturday, July 27th, 2024 a part of the CREATE! Eastside Arts Festival. Tickets are each $55 + GST & processing fee.
