KLANDESTIN (TURNING TABLES)
Germany, 2024, 124 Minutes, digital projection. In German with English subtitles.
Writer-Director: Angelina Maccarone, Cinematography: Florian Foest, Editor: Gergana Voigt, Music: Freya Arde, Cast: Habib Adda, Lambert Wilson, Barbara Sukowa, and Banafshe Hourmazdi. Producers: Martina Haubrich, Claudia Schröter, Production Co.: CALA Filmproduktion GmbH (Berlin), CALA Film Central GmbH & Co. KG (Erfurt), CALA Film West GmbH (Darmstadt).
With her "Hippie Days" now far behind her, Mathilda (Sukowa) is conservative politician in Frankfurt and staunch advocate for stricter EU immigration controls. When her close friend and artist Richard (Wilson) asks her to hide Malik (Adda), a young Moroccan who has entered the EU illegally, her ideological and private loyalties collide. Mathilda's assistant Amina (Hourmazdi), who wants to leave her Moroccan roots behind, is called in as a "cultural mediator" to help Mathilda with her unexpected dilemma. Following a bombing in Frankfurt that sends shockwaves through the city, Malik is unjustly identified as a suspect and a chain of events is set into motion with far-reaching political and personal consequences.
Winner of the German Film Award (“Lola”) for “the best script yet to be filmed” in 2017, and Best Film At the Festival of German Film, Ludwigshafen.

Banafshe Hourmazdi studied acting in Germany and Switzerland. A milestone in her career was the feature film NO HARD FEELINGS (Faraz Shariat, 2020), which received numerous international nominations and awards, including the FIRST STEPS Award in 2019 for Best Film, and Best Ensemble Cast (Banafshe Hourmazdi, Eidin Jalali und Benjamin Radjaipour), and the Teddy Award at the 2020 Berlinale. Since then, she has worked on diverse film and TV productions, including the series “MaPa,” the coming-of-age series “Loving Her,” “Oh Hell”, and the feature films KOKON (Leonie Krippendorff, 2019), WO KEINE GÖTTER SIND, WALTEN GESPENSTER (Bastian Gascho, 2021), TURNING TABLES (Angelina Maccarone, 2024), and NO BEAST. SO FIERCE (Burhan Qurbani, 2025) At the Berlinale 2026, she recieved the Berlinale Talents Fellowship Award for her script “Maya with Y.“ In addition to her work in front of the camera, she was a member of the Berlinale Generations Jury in 2024, an ambassador for German Films, and works as a script consultant and writer.
