A staple in the Melton Mowbray parkrun calendar, Turn It Purple is our annual event raising money and awareness for the charity Pancreatic Cancer UK (PCUK). We encourage everyone to wear a little - or a lot of! - purple, PCUK's colour, so we can turn our event purple for a week. We also use this event to remember Ray Walker, who passed away only weeks after being diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in 2018.
He was a fab husband, dad, granddad and friend, but he was also a cherished member of the community here at Melton Mowbray parkrun. Over the first three and a half years of our event we'd conservatively estimate he took 15,000 photos. He then uploaded these photos to the Melton Mowbray parkrun Flickr site for all to freely use - after he'd spent some time (most of a weekend) editing the levels so make sure they were perfect!
Please do come join us on the 16th to remember Ray. If previous years are anything to go by then there will likely be cake available in exchange for a small donation to PCUK and don't forget your purple!
