Tunisian crochet is a cross between knitting and crochet that results in a completely different texture to both. In this class you will learn the basics of this wonderful craft. We will focus on making little achievable swatches to give you a taste of different techniques. In this workshop you will learn:
- Tunisian simple stitch
- Foundation row
- Bind off
- Simple increases and decreases
Rather than getting too fancy with different stitches, we will play with colour! It's fun to learn what you can do when using different colour changing techniques.
To participate in this workshop, it helps if you know how to chain (crochet stitch).
On Saturday 23 May, Abbey is running two Tunisian Crochet for Beginners workshops. The content of each workshop will be the same (so you only need to do one workshop). This workshop is 9:30am-12:30pm. The second is 1:30-4:30pm.
Once you have completed the Tunisian Crochet for Beginners workshop you will be able to attend other Abbey Made workshops. So feel free to book in for the Sunday sessions too!
WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO BRING
For this class you will need to bring:
6mm Tunisian crochet hook (single ended with no cable) OR a 6mm standard crochet hook without an ergonomic handle (a Tunisian crochet hook would be better, but we understand that can be a big investment if you're new. Abbey recommends the KnitPro Tunisian Crochet hooks.
A small quantity of 8ply/DK weight yarn in two different colours. Please choose non-splitty yarn, and preferably not cotton for beginners

ABOUT TUNISIAN CROCHET
Tunisian crochet is a type of crochet that mixes ideas from knitting and regular crochet. It uses a longer hook to hold many loops at once, then works them off in a second step. This makes a thicker, textured fabric that can look a bit like knitting. It’s great for making clothes, blankets, and other items.
Abbey says, "learning Tunisian Crochet is about layering one small skill on top of another small skill. Master the individual skills by repeating them over and over again, and hey presto, you've got yourself a garment to wear!"
