About this Event
? A cinema screening. A global leader on stage. One continuous conversation.
Continuing our annual partnership with the Munich Security Conference, the TUM Speakers Series is honored to present a truly unique evening with Jens Stoltenberg, Minister of Finance (Kingdom of Norway), Chair-Designate (Munich Security Conference) and former Secretary General (NATO).
For the first time in our history, the event will open with a cinema screening: Facing War, the new documentary offering unprecedented access to Jens Stoltenberg during his final year as NATO Secretary General. The film follows him at the very center of global crisis management. As war rages in Ukraine, tensions rise among allies, and unity within the alliance is repeatedly put to the test. It is a rare, intimate portrait of leadership under extreme pressure.
? Event Highlights
Immediately after the screening, Jens Stoltenberg will join us live on stage in the TUM Audimax for a moderated discussion and audience Q&A - creating a direct bridge from the film to first-hand reflection. In our signature Speakers Series setting, students will have the unique opportunity to engage with the man who shaped NATO through its most consequential decade since the Cold War, and to explore how high-stakes diplomacy, alliance leadership, and decision-making unfold beyond the screen.
This event combines cinematic insight with real-time dialogue, offering a depth of perspective rarely possible in traditional talks or film screenings alone.

About the Speaker:
Jens Stoltenberg is one of the defining statesmen of our time, with a distinguished career spanning international security, economic governance, climate policy, and global diplomacy.
He currently serves as Minister of Finance of the Kingdom of Norway (since February 2025) and is the Chair-Designate of the Munich Security Conference. From 2014 to 2024, he served as Secretary General of NATO, leading the Alliance through its most consequential decade since the Cold War. During his tenure, NATO undertook its largest post-Cold War defence reinforcement, expanded through four rounds of enlargement, increased defence spending, and responded to Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine - a period documented in Facing War.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Stoltenberg served two terms as Prime Minister of Norway (2000–2001; 2005–2013), where he reformed the Norwegian armed forces and helped shape the country’s oil, gas, and economic strategy. He also served as UN Special Envoy for Climate Change (2013–2014), co-chairing a high-level UN Commission on Climate Finance and contributing to preparations for the Paris Agreement.
Mr. Stoltenberg has held multiple senior government roles, including Minister of Finance and Minister of Industry and Energy, and was a member of the Norwegian Parliament for over two decades. He has been awarded the U.S. Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
