Come on down to T-Town for a day of Sacred Harp singing! No experience is required & all are welcome. We'll be at St. Cecilia's Listening Room starting at 9:30, host a "singing school" workshop at 10 to teach the basics, enjoy a potluck at noon, and then sing afterwards until ~2:30.For the uninitiated, Sacred Harp singing is an early American hymn singing tradition. Sometimes called "heavy metal a cappella," we don't perform like a choir but instead sing communally in a group, facing each other. The result is a sonic experience unlike any other. Many tunes are religious, but you don't need to be religious to participate and enjoy. Mostly, it's a fun, accessible way to sing with friends and make some wild, awesome harmonies together. Everyone is encouraged to join, even if your main credentials are karaoke or Wagon Wheel by Old Crow Medicine Show. Hope to see you in May!
