Tudor world, previously known as Shrieve’s House, is an attractive timber-framed Grade II listed building. The first recorded tenant of the house was an archer to Henry VIII, William Shrieve in 1536.
The house was once owned by William Rogers, a tavern keeper and also the person said to have inspired Shakespeare's Falstaff character. Williams daughter, Elizabeth was known to be very good friends with Shakespeare’s daughter, Suzannah.
The foundations of Tudor World date back to 1196, including the original cobbled carriageway, which Shakespeare himself is believed to have walked across during his life.
Tudor world (Shrieve’s house) is believed to be the oldest house in Stratford Upon Avon. A large barn behind the main house was added in the 16th century. After a fire swept through Stratford Upon Avon the house had to be heavily rebuilt in 1594.
During the Civil War Parliamentary soldiers lodged a the house during the Battle of Edgehill in 1642. After the war, the first mayor of Stratford, John Woolmer, lived in the house.
Tudor World has a reputation for being one of the most haunted buildings in England.
People have reported seeing soldiers on the stairs and the apparition of a maid has been seen walking the corridors in the dark. The sensation of being pushed and grabbed has also been reported here and an unwelcoming male presence waits for you in the attic, will he make an appearance on your investigation?
What to expect:-
You'll be greeted by one of the SGP team when you arrive at the venue, from there we will show you to the base room where there'll be tea, coffee for you to enjoy
After a quick briefing we will then start the night, this is your event and we welcome any ideas on how you want the night to go, we are relaxed with our approach to the evening and have no strict structure with regards to breaks, we will follow the guests lead
Take part in ouija boards, table tipping and many other experiments throughout the night
investigation will end at 2am
