Buổi trò chuyện với chia sẻ về việc tạo kí ức mới cho điện ảnh từ ba cách tiếp cận, thực hành, quy mô và kinh nghiệm khác nhau: một tổ chức lưu trữ, một tạp chí chuyên đề và một công ty phát hành.

Asia Film Archive (AFA) là tổ chức lưu trữ phim châu Á được thành lập năm 2005 tại Singapore và hiện trực thuộc Ban Thư viện Quốc gia. Bộ lưu chiểu của AFA hiện nay đang có hơn 2,000 tác phẩm điện ảnh châu Á kinh điển, cũng như các bộ phim đương đại của Đông Nam Á. Nhiều dự án giám tuyển phim đặc sắc của AFA như Restored với các tác phẩm được phục chế, Monographs giới thiệu các phim và tiểu luận mới theo chủ đề hay chương trình thường niên phim ngắn Singapore Shorts. MARG1N là một tạp chí điện ảnh độc lập có trụ sở tại Campuchia, hoạt động dưới sự hỗ trợ của nhóm Anti-Archive. Dự án mời các cây viết, các nghệ sĩ, các nhà làm phim trong khu vực Đông Nam Á để cùng đóng góp nội dung cho một vấn đề trọng tâm mỗi năm. Sau số đầu tiên năm 2024, MARG1N sắp ra mắt ấn bản số thứ hai xung quanh ý tưởng về ‘dấu vết’ trong điện ảnh Singapore và Việt Nam. Các diễn giả đại diện MARG1N: Savunthara Seng, Alyssandra Maxine và Sonich Touch.

Carlotta Films là một công ty phát hành của Pháp đã có 27 năm hoạt động trong việc giới thiệu những tác phẩm kinh điển thế giới, với các bản phim phục chế và một nhận diện mới, thông qua các kênh đa dạng như phát hành rạp, phát hành đĩa chất lượng cao, phát trực tuyến và xuất bản sách. Điện ảnh châu Á là mối quan tâm lớn của Carlotta Films với các tác phẩm của Yasujiro Ozu, Hồ Kim Thuyên, Dương Đức Xương, Hứa An Hoa, hay Mike De Leon. NATALIE KHOO phụ trách chương trình phim tại Asian Film Archive (AFA), từng theo học Khảo cổ học và Nhân học tại Đại học Cambridge. Cô là giám tuyển của Restrospective Edward Yang, Monographs 2023: sinking, shifting, stirring, Y2K DreamZ, bên cạnh các chương trình và triển lãm khác. Mới đây cô tham gia hội đồng giám khảo liên hoan phim tài liệu Forum Film Dokumenter và liên hoan phim ngắn Singapore Shorts. Trước đó, cô từng phụ trách chương trình phim cho National Gallery Singapore. Natalie cũng là nhà làm phim có tác phẩm chiếu tại Objectifs, Queer East Film Festival, Kurzfilm Festival Hamburg, Yamagata IDF và nhiều liên hoan khác.

MARG1N MAGAZINE gồm ba thành viên: Savunthara Seng, Alyssandra Maxine và Sonich Touch. SAVUNTHARA SENG là một cây viết và nhà làm phim, trợ lý sản xuất của công ty điện ảnh Anti-Archive tại Campuchia; cô là tổng biên tập của tạp chí MARG1N và từng có bài đăng trên Mekong Review và Singapore International Film Festival’s Atlas. ALYSSANDRA MAXINE là một cây viết, biên tập viên từ Manila, cô đồng thực hiện MARG1N và làm việc tại Trung Tâm Cho Điện Ảnh Mới Center for New Cinema, một khởi xướng về giáo dục điện ảnh và nghiên cứu trữ liệu tại Philippines. SONICH TOUCH là nhà thiết kế đồ họa làm việc tại Phnom Penh; các thiết kế của cô kết hợp màu sắc sinh động và cách sắp chữ khoáng đạt.

VINCENT PAUL-BONCOUR là người đồng sáng lập và điều hành công ty phát hành Carlotta Films của Pháp. Ngay khi còn trẻ, Vincent đã tự làm một tờ báo điện ảnh của riêng mình, tiếp đó dẫn dắt một câu lạc bộ phim ciné-club. Sau trải nghiệm làm việc tại rạp chiếu Mac Machon ở Paris, vào năm 23 tuổi, Vincent Paul-Boncour thành lập công ty phát hành Carlotta Films cùng Jean-Pierre Gardelli, tập trung vào điện ảnh di sản. Tên công ty được Vincent đặt để gợi nhớ tới nhân vật nữ chính trong phim Vertigo của Alfred Hitchcock. North by Northwest cũng là bộ phim đầu tiên Carlotta Films phát hành rạp tại Pháp. Một hành trình 27 năm vẫn đang tiếp tục. Tháng Sáu 2025, Carlotta Films sẽ ra mắt các bản Blu-Ray điện ảnh của R. W. Fassbinder, Ulli Lommel, Alan J. Pakula, Lino Brocka, và Lý An.

NGUYỄN QUỐC THÀNH là nghệ sĩ, giám tuyển, thành viên đồng sáng lập Nhà Sàn Collective tại Hà Nội. Năm 2013, anh bắt đầu thực hiện Queer Forever!, một dự án tiếp diễn dưới các hình thức tham gia của cộng đồng như rạp chiếu phim di động, không gian cư trú, căn bếp, nơi gặp gỡ, học hỏi, làm nghệ thuật, yêu đương queer. Năm 2019, Thành thực hiện dự án Vườn Lài, Xứ Sở Diệu Kỳ, trình chiếu, thảo luận và biên soạn ấn phẩm về điện ảnh queer Việt Nam. Năm 2022, Thành hợp tác mở nhà queer mang tên ‘ưhưh22’ trong khuôn khổ dự án Bến của Nhà Sàn Collective tại documenta15 (Kassel, Đức).

A conversation to discuss the making of new memories for cinema from three practices of different approaches, scales, and experiences — an archive, a film magazine, and a distributor.

Asian Film Archive (AFA) was founded in 2005 in Singapore and later became a subsidiary of the Singaporean National Library Board. The archive has collected more than 2,000 titles, with a focus on classic Asian films and contemporary independent works from Southeast Asia. Notable among their programming strands are Restored — showcasing newly restored films; Monographs — presenting commissioned films and essays; and the annual Singapore Shorts, to name a few. AFA will be represented at the event by Natalie Khoo.

MARG1N is an independent, print-only film magazine based in Cambodia, supported by Anti-Archive. Every year, the magazine invites writers, artists and filmmakers from throughout Southeast Asia to contribute articles relating to a given thematic. Following the 2024 publication of the first issue, MARG1N’s Issue 2 will focus on Vietnamese and Singaporean cinema revolving around the idea of ‘Traces’. MARG1N will be represented at the event by Savunthara Seng, Alyssandra Maxine and Sonich Touch.

Carlotta Films is a French distribution company that has been in operation for 27 years, specializing on classic films, cults, revivals, restored versions, with releases coming out through cinema, home releases, book publications, amongst others. Asian cinema constitutes a major interest for the company, its past releases having showcased works from Yasujiro Ozu, King Hu, Edward Yang, Ann Hui, Mike De Leon, etc. Carlotta Films will be represented at the event by Vincent Paul-Boncour.

NATALIE KHOO is a film programmer at the Asian Film Archive (AFA), with a background in archaeology and anthropology from the University of Cambridge. She has curated the programmes and exhibitions Retrospective: Edward Yang, Monographs 2023: sinking, shifting, stirring, Y2K DreamZ among others. She recently served on the jury of Forum Film Dokumenter and Singapore Shorts, and was previously a film programmer at National Gallery Singapore. Natalie is also a filmmaker whose work has screened at Objectifs, Queer East Film Festival, Kurzfilm Festival Hamburg, Yamagata IDF among others.

MARG1N’s editor-in-chief SAVUNTHARA SENG is a writer, filmmaker and production assistant at Anti-Archive, a Cambodian production company, Savunthara has been published by Mekong Review and Singapore International Film Festival’s Atlas. Manila-based editor and writer ALYSSANDRA MAXINE co-edits MARG1N and works with the Center for New Cinema, a Filipino initiative for film pedagogy, training, and archival research. SONICH TOUCH is a graphic designer based in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Visually, her works combine vivid colors and bold typography.

VINCENT PAUL-BONCOUR is the co-founder and director of Carlotta Films, a French distribution company. He published his own film magazine at a young age and later became the head of a film society. At 23 years old, having worked at the Paris' Cinéma Mac Mahon, Vincent co-founded Carlotta Films with Jean-Pierre Gardelli. Specializing in heritage cinema, the distribution company was named after the female character in Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo. North by Northwest was Carlotta Films’ first theatrical release in France. The journey still continues 27 years later. In June 2025, Carlotta Films will present on blu-ray films by R. W. Fassbinder, Ulli Lommel, Alan J. Pakula, Lino Brocka, and Ang Lee.

NGUYỄN QUỐC THÀNH is a Hanoi-based artist, curator, and co-founding member of Nhà Sàn Collective. In 2013, he founded Queer Forever! festival, an on-going, shape-shifting project: a pop-up cinema, book and zine workshop, kitchen, space of queer gathering, listening, watching, and loving. In 2019, he organized Vườn Lài Wonderland to screen, discuss, and compile a publication on Vietnamese queer cinema. In 2022, his collaborated project titled ‘ưhưh22’, a queer house offering free accommodation was part of Nhà Sàn Collective’s works for documenta 15 in Kassel (Germany).
