About this Event
Please note you must attend BOTH sessions 14 January & 28 January, 4pm - 6pm on both days
Trainers: Working with AIM, we are delighted to welcome Hilary Barnard and Ruth Lesirge, the authors of AIM’s “Successful Governance for Museums” and acknowledged experts in charity governance.
What will be covered?
Two linked sessions introducing the role and responsibilities of being a trustee. These engaging sessions will encourage discussion between participants.
You will get to discuss the nitty gritty of Trustee duties but will also think about tools for you and your fellow trustees to use in improving the governance of your museum.
The sessions are also an invaluable opportunity to network with other trustees, exchange ideas and be refreshed in your thinking about trusteeship.
A good induction will enable new trustees (first year or so) to become active and contribute more quickly and to greater effect to your museum. It is also a requirement of the Museum Accreditation scheme.
We will ask you to think about a few things specific to your museum both in advance of the first session, and in between sessions one and two.
Learning objectives
- Understand more about the role and responsibilities of being a museum trustee, and how it applies in your museum.
- Discover some techniques to offer as ideas to your fellow Trustees as ways to improve the working of the group.
- Understand how to separate your roles if you are both a Trustee, and an operational volunteer at your museum.
Who should attend?
Ideal for new or fairly new trustees – a maximum of two from any one museum.
We appreciate museums are all run differently, and Hilary and Ruth will be keen to support your specific way of working and will not assume your have paid staff, or not. All shapes and sizes of museum are welcome!
