How cool is it when you can show your friends and family or ticktock followers a new trick you have taught your horse? During this workshop we will focus on teaching the horse to target, A transferable skill that can assist with many other tricks and useful horse husbandry tasks. In its simplest form we ask the horse to touch their nose to a handheld target. In its more advanced stages, we can ask the horse to target any part of their body or even to head towards a stationary mark. The pony rearing in the above pictures was taught with the use of a target. No matter where your horse is at on their trick training journey, you will get something out of the day.
We start by introducing the horses and humans to clicker training which is the method we will use to introduce targeting. The humans will learn how this works or top up their skills if they have already done it before. With this as a base line understanding, we will then go on to introduce the targets (these will be provided for you) and continue from here to reach your end goal by the end of the day.
