About this Event
Tree equity and intergenerational justice in Treescapes in and beyond Manchester
22nd July 2024 – Grosvenor East , Manchester Metropolitan University

The ‘Voices of the Future’ project aimed to work with diverse children and young people to co-develop more hopeful, equitable, resilient treescapes of the future.
We aimed to integrate children and young people's knowledge, experiences, and hopes with scientific knowledge in order to co-produce new approaches to creating and caring for resilient treescapes that benefit the environment and society.
Our objectives were:
- to co-produce a transdisciplinary and cross-sector, ‘lexicon of experience’ with children and young people (CYP)
- to devise, test and evaluate innovative models of co-production with CYP to shape treescapes policy and practice for future generations, and
- to work with stakeholders to co-create knowledge and directly influence policy, pedagogy and practice to increase treescapes and maximise their benefits for the environment and society.
We would like to invite you to a project showcase and future research-practice collaboration planning event. At this event you will be able to find out what we have developed and learn about the different aspects of our project as well as take away some of our resources and toolkits.
We also aim to work with you to develop a new agenda for treescapes research with children and young people with these key themes:
- Place and intergenerational justice with a particular focus on trees and equity
- Listening to young people’s voices with a particular focus on multilingual and minoritized young people across the North West
- Co-creating new research agendas with children and young people.
Our project has been funded through the UK Treescapes programme and we will be linking the day to national and international objectives. The project has also been funded by the Natural Environment Research Council as well as the Arts and Humanities Research Council and the Economic and Social Research Council.
