Tree Canada's National Tree Day Planting Event in Winnipeg (Buhler Park)

Tree Canada is excited to celebrate National Tree Day (NTD), presented by BMO. This is the biggest NTD celebration yet, with planting events taking place across the country on both the Wednesday and Saturday of National Forest Week.

Join us to plant trees in your community and connect with nature. Volunteers will participate in planting 750 native trees (including white spruce, Jack pine, balsam fir, Manitoba maple, and willow), mulching, and watering after the event. We’ll also provide gloves and shovels! This event is completely FREE!

We are thrilled to continue our support for the greening of Buhler Recreation Park! This event aims to introduce trees to the park, significantly enhancing its appeal and functionality. Trees will provide shade, offering the park's 300,000 visitors a respite from the sun on hot days, making it more inviting and comfortable. Additionally, trees improve air quality by absorbing pollutants and releasing oxygen, creating a healthier environment for everyone. They attract wildlife, adding biodiversity and natural beauty to the park. Their presence can also mitigate noise pollution, creating a tranquil atmosphere for relaxation and recreation. Moreover, trees contribute to soil stability, preventing erosion and enhancing the park's sustainability.

Overall, integrating trees will transform the park into a greener, more vibrant space for the community to enjoy.

This is a catered event! Volunteers can grab a snack and beverage, courtesy of Starbucks.

Volunteers should wear and bring the following:

• Water bottle
• Sturdy, closed-toe shoes or boots
• Long pants
• Comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing
• Sunscreen
• Bug spray
• Hat

This rain or shine event will take place unless the forecast calls for thunderstorms or very heavy rainfall.

Volunteers can park at the Buhler Park parking lot, which will also serve as the meeting point.
