Ever wanted to capture a place quickly and beautifully while you’re out exploring? Travel sketching with gouache is the perfect blend of spontaneity and painterly expression — and the pond at Washington Park is an ideal setting to learn. With reflective water views, arched bridges, tree‑lined paths, seasonal blooms, and visiting wildlife, this workshop invites you to slow down, observe, and translate the landscape into vibrant, compact sketches.
You’ll learn how to build a portable gouache kit, create quick value studies, block in bold shapes, and add expressive details — all while working on location. We’ll begin with guided warm‑ups to help simplify the complex natural forms around us. Then, from your choice of pondside vantage point or shaded garden path, you’ll complete a full travel‑style gouache sketch that captures the light, color, and atmosphere of Washington Park.
You’ll Learn How To:
- Build a lightweight, portable gouache sketching setup
- Choose efficient color palettes for outdoor work
- Block in shapes quickly and confidently
- Capture atmospheric light and subtle color shifts
- Add expressive details without overworking
- Work efficiently on location with changing light
Whether you’re a watercolorist curious about gouache or a plein‑air painter looking for a more compact, matte medium, this workshop offers a fun, supportive way to explore the landscape together.
