About this Event
Travel on the Plate is a passport to global flavours!
Step into L’OCA Labs and be transported to a bustling Japanese izakaya.
Experience the bold, comforting, and playful spirit of izakaya cooking as you create a trio of classic ‘sakana’ or small dishes, each bursting with Japanese character, in a fun and interactive evening where you’ll learn how to easily recreate each of these dishes at home.
Chicken Karaage
Japanese-style fried chicken marinated in soy, ginger, and garlic, then fried until the outside is perfectly crispy and the inside remains tender and juicy.
Okonomiyaki
A savoury cabbage pancake topped with sweet okonomi sauce, tangy Japanese mayo, smoky bonito flakes, and crisp scallions.
Tuna Tataki
Lightly seared ahi tuna served with a bright ponzu dressing, nutty toasted sesame, and fresh herbs.
Throughout the evening, you’ll learn essential Japanese techniques, from crafting a balanced marinade and frying to perfect crispness, to mixing batter, searing, knife work, and building umami the Japanese way.
