About this Event
Trauma is an emotional response to a stressful or disturbing incident or physical injury. When one experiences a traumatic event, it can create an inner environment that will affect many aspects of the survivor’s life. From a sense of disconnection to a dysregulated nervous system, the impact of trauma reaches both the mind and the body and can leave one with feelings of insecurity, overwhelm and powerlessness that can distance the survivor from their innate sense of joy and inner peace.
Yoga has many tools that can reconnect practitioners to their inner peace and well-being, but for those living with the inner wound of trauma, a regular yoga class may present challenges that keep them from enjoying the many benefits of the practice.
Trauma informed yoga aims to create a welcoming space for anyone who is experiencing the difficulties that can result from traumatic events.
Join Lauren McLaren to investigate the impact of trauma and explore how to make your classes inclusive and sensitive to the needs of those who are living with the effects of trauma.
During this 14-hour training, you will learn:
- How trauma can affect physical health and well-being
- The neurobiology of trauma and how yoga can assist in regulating the nervous system to help reconnect the body/mind systems
- How to use practices including asana, pranayama, mudra and mindfulness to promote empowerment and agency
- How to honor trauma survivors in yoga classes by tailoring language and cues, providing consistency in structure, and offering modifications
This training is perfect for teachers who want to create a more inclusive teaching environment as well as for practitioners who are looking to advance their knowledge in how yogic tools can serve this population.
Please note that this training is not intended to empower teachers to diagnose or treat trauma survivors, but rather to offer yoga practices and tools that are sensitive to the special needs of this population.
