About this Event

Workshop Dates and Times:
Friday, Sept. 23rd, 8 am - 5 pm, and Saturday, Sept. 24th, 8 am - 5 pm

(2 days, 6 hours each day)

Workshop Description: Providing effective and enduring care for complex trauma survivors is a challenging mission for individuals and organizations alike. Those that work directly with traumatized individuals are vulnerable to developing the symptoms of posttraumatic stress, personally and organizationally, causing distress, loss of care effectiveness, clinical errors, burnout, and high rates of personnel turnover. This workshop offers a review of both the signs of health and symptoms of Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, highlighting the basic interpersonal and neurobiological factors in complex trauma recovery. Emphasis will be placed upon increasing understanding of complex trauma, employing best practices for post traumatic growth, and establishing realistic expectations for complex trauma recovery in an effective, enduring manner in accordance with prevailing standards of trauma-informed and trauma-specific care. Additionally, this training will focus on practicing compassion satisfaction as a means of stewarding vicarious trauma and meeting the psychological rigors of providing care to trauma survivors at the individual and organizational levels. This workshop is designed to benefit mental health professionals, social workers, physicians, legal advocates, law enforcement personnel, caseworkers, and the professional staff, volunteers, administration, and board members of NGOs working with traumatized populations.
