About this Event
โจ Event Overview
Pride in Engineering is a non-profit organization based in Edmonton, with a mission to inspire, support, and connect 2SLGBTQIA+ professionals in engineering. Join us for Trans Visibility in Engineering: Stories, Struggles, Strength, a panel and networking event uplifting and centering trans professionals in the engineering industry, in honour of Transgender Awareness Week. This evening will bring together students, professionals, and allies to hear powerful stories, celebrate resilience, and reflect on how we can build more inclusive futures in engineering.
This free (or by donation) event will be held at the Fred Pheasey Commons (DICE 8th Floor) at the University of Alberta on Monday, November 17, 2025 at 6 PM. Snacks and beverages will be provided. The event is open to all members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community in engineering and adjacent fields and all allies who wish to learn more about the queer experience in engineering and are curious about their role supporting 2SLGBTQIA+ members in the workplace.
This event builds on the success of Building Inclusive Futures, a past Pride in Engineering event which brought together 2SLGBTQIA+ professionals and allies in Edmonton for a night of inspiring conversations and connections.
๐ณ๏ธโโง๏ธ About Transgender Awareness Week
Transgender Awareness Week (TAW) is observed annually from November 13 to November 19. This dedicated week of recognition is a time for advocacy, education, and celebration, culminating in the solemn observance of the Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) on November 20.
The primary goal of TAW is to raise the visibility of transgender and gender-diverse people, shedding light on the unique experiences, challenges, and resilience of the community. It is a time to educate the broader public about the issues facing trans individuals, challenge prejudice, and celebrate the valuable contributions of trans people across all facets of society.
During this week, communities come together to share stories, host educational events, and engage in advocacy efforts aimed at achieving full equality and safety for trans people. Itโs an opportunity for allies and community members alike to stand together, promoting understanding and fostering environments where all individuals can live authentically and without fear.
