🌺 Mini Moʻolelo:
Nuʻuanu Valley lies within Nuʻuanu Ahupuaʻa in the Kona District of Oʻahu, a place shaped by abundant rainfall, steep ridges, and the waters that flow from the Koʻolau mountains to Honolulu Harbor. These streams once nourished extensive loʻi kalo which provided staple food for the community.
Much of the forest along Judd Trail today is secondary growth dominated by introduced species (such as bamboo), reflecting major land-use changes during the 19th–20th centuries when agriculture shifted from traditional systems to plantation economies and later urban development.
