In this relaxed, beginner-friendly class, we’ll explore a step-by-step process for creating a bright, flowing koi painting using a combination of soft pastels and acrylic paint. As with my other process-based classes, the focus is on planning, layering, and building the painting thoughtfully—without rushing or pressure to finish.
We’ll begin by lightly planning the composition and movement of the koi, then layer soft pastels to establish color, softness, and flow. Acrylic paint will be introduced to add texture, contrast, highlights and depth, allowing the koi and water to come together naturally.
If time permits, students will have the opportunity to begin a second koi painting, offering space to experiment with different colors or movement.
This class is designed to stand on its own while giving you techniques and confidence you can continue using at home.
