Campers! The burn approaches and its nearly time for us to load up our San Francisco trailer to get our gear trucked out to the playa. Join us at a work party to load up our trailer with camp and personal belongings. Led by our fabulous Load Master Hardware, see below for critical information on how to get your stuff to the burn with us! When arriving at the loading party, please text 415-425-9662 to be let in to Army Street Mini Storage.
PERSONAL BINS
PLEASE use the black and yellow 27 gallon bins from Costco/Lowe’s/Walmart/etc. Other bins ARE NOT ALLOWED. They don’t stack with the same interlocking pattern and this causes the stacks to topple over on to people, destroy equipment, and significantly reduce usable space in the truck.
HOW MANY BINS
The limit is two (2) bins per person. This does not mean 13, or 5, or 3, or 1 bin plus your Yurt, it means 2 bins. You may also substitute one of your allowed bins for a tent or ShiftPod. First priority for tents, bikes, and additional storage is given to early-arrival/build campers since they have much fewer options for transport assistance.
WHAT TO BRING
Yourself, your bins, gloves, sunblock, comfy clothes that can get dirty, comfy working shoes (not high heels queens), and a can-do attitude!
BIKES
There is usually some room at the inn for bikes towards the end of the day. BUT BUT BUT BUT BUT... read below or regret your life choices...
These bikes will be for early arrival people first, since they have much fewer options for transport to playa.
You must physically be there at the very end of the loading party to try to load your bike only.
Last time we fit 11 bikes. There are over 150 campers. Don't count on it queens!
If you're trying to figure out transport for bikes, I highly recommend the Burner Express Bus.
BURNER EXPRESS PERSONAL BELONGINGS/BIKES
You'll get a bit of sticker shock at the price, but it is all-inclusive and really not that expensive once you do *all* the math of providing your own transport.
The Burner Express bus also:
Skips the entry line. (This alone is worth it.)
Has a Saturday (before gate open) arrival for Pseudo-Early-Arrival realness.
Is a much more green option.
Has a bike add-on option.
BIN LABELS
You will need to LABEL your bin with:
Your real *and* playa name(s)
Camp name (Comfort and Joy)
Camp address (8:00 & Enigma)
Phone number
The easiest way to do this is with gaffers tape and sharpie, as provided at the loading party. You can also do it at home with paper and *strong* tape. If it isn't good quality tape, it will likely come off in the Playa dust.
VOLUNTEER SHIFTS NEEDED
Music Maestro: Setup speakers, DJ or playlist it, and power us through the work all day.
Propane Princesses: Four people (two with cars, preferably trucks) to take and fill propane tanks.
Ruler of Refreshment: Coffee in the morning, coolers w/ice and hydration/water options throughout the day.
Food Fetishist: Pastries in the morning and lunch midday.
Bin Boy: Help people label bins, zip tie them closed, sort them into the correct pre-loading zone, etc.
Please volunteer for these roles at the following link: https://comfortandjoy.ivolunteer.com/loading2022
CAMP AREA LEADS
Please think about what you need for your section of camp's early arrival needs now. Write it down! We will be sorting everything prior to loading and it sucks for early arrival folks if they have to dig half way into the truck on the first night. Please also note that if you are a camp area lead you are not allowed to help out with any of the other loading party volunteer shifts, so that you can stay focused on organizing and sorting your camp areas supplies as we work.
Once it is all loaded up, we take a group photo, then go across the street to the bar and grab drinks/dinner together, usually around 4 or 5 PM.
See you there,
Hardware
